Raptors Fire Mitchell, Name Triano Interim Coach

(Canadian Press) The Toronto Raptors fired head coach Sam Mitchell on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after the fifth-worst loss in franchise history. Mitchell, 45, will be replaced on an interim basis by assistant coach Jay Triano, in his seventh season with Toronto. "This is a difficult but necessary step the franchise must take," Raptors president and general manager Bryan Colangelo said in a statement. Triano, from Niagara Falls, Ont., is best known for coaching the Canadian men's team from 1998-2004. Triano's appointment marks the first time a Canadian has taken on a head coaching position in the NBA.

The 42nd Annual Wesmen Classic is set to kick off on Monday December 1st and will end with the Men's university final the night of Tues December 30th. Todd MacCulloch Hoop School Jamboree

The sixth running of the Todd MacCulloch Hoop School is under way and Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce the year end jamboree on Wednesday December 3 at St. John's High School, 401 Church Ave in Winnipeg. The event will take place at the St. John's High School gymnasium (401 Church St) from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on Wednesday December 3. Participants and coaches from the 9 schools will be on hand to play games and receive merchandise courtesy of Todd MacCulloch. The girls will go from 4:00-5:00 and the boys from 5:00 - 6:00 pm.

Basketball Manitoba has just added a number of new items to its growing online store! A complete line of Basketball Manitoba Reebok clothing is now available including t-shirts, golf shirts, track suits and hoodies. The items can be purchased either online or from the office. These new items join the Fox40 Dry-Erase Coaches Boards, FIBA Scoresheets, FIBA Rulebooks and Fox40 Whistles. All items are also available in person from the Basketball Manitoba office during normal business hours (M-F 9am - 4pm) at 200 Main Street in Downtown Winnipeg.
